Troubleshooting PDF Issues
Throughout this Course, there are lots of Worksheets. Some are strictly INFO sheets, but most of them have interactive elements: forms with blue (or white) boxes to fill in.
Laptop or Desktop:
- Open the worksheets in a new browser window
- Fill in the forms and worksheets
- Download the finished form.
- If you cannot fill them in your browser, then:
- Download the PDF to your computer (using the list at the bottom of the page or in the materials file)
- Fill it in (using Acrobat Reader).
- SAVE the finished form (with a different name if you want to preserve the blank form to revisit at the end of the Course or Module.
Mobile or small Pad:
- Download the PDF (using the list at the bottom of the page or in the materials file).
- It may open first, but may not be fillable in a browser.
- Select “SAVE”
- Open the saved blank PDF
- Fill in the form/worksheets
- SAVE the finished form (with a different name if you want to preserve the blank form to revisit at the end of the Course or Module.
Still have Problems??
If you are still having issues with any of those steps, there are a bunch of things to try.
Bottom line, there are 3 choices:
- Try “fixing” your browser, add correct plug-in or extension
- Try switching browsers: Chrome with an Adobe Acrobat extension seems to work well on the Mac or PC
- Download PDF directly: Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac) on the Worksheets link to DOWNLOAD the PDF to your computer instead of opening it in a browser.
- Then you can open with Acrobat Reader: Download here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
- Print out the PDF and fill it in “old-school,” pencil or pen. Several of the forms in the ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS Module require you to draw out your Office Layout, and these will be quickest with pencil anyway
Problem: Blue boxes do not appear in the form.
Solution:
If a PDF isn’t displaying properly in your browser, the most likely culprits are an outdated browser or PDF reader, a corrupted cache, incorrect browser settings, or issues with the PDF file itself; try updating your browser and PDF reader, clearing your cache, checking your browser’s PDF settings, and downloading the PDF again to see if that resolves the problem.
Adobe says that many problems are caused because the default generic browser pdf reader is not fully implemented and does not support all of the PDF attributes. So check your settings to make sure you have Adobe Acrobat as your pdf extension or plug-in

Problem: There is no Download arrow on the browser window.
Solution:
This is a reported problem (feature?) with Safari for the Mac. See #2 above, switch browsers.
Problem: Clicking on the Link or Picture gets you to the Download File menu
Solution:
This is likely a Settings issue (see #1), and that you or your IT person chose NOT to have PDFs open in the browser. Here is a guide from this Google Search (link)
If PDFs are downloading instead of opening directly in your browser, it usually means your browser settings are configured to automatically download PDF files rather than opening them within the browser; you can adjust this by going to your browser settings, navigating to “Privacy and security” then “Site Settings” and then selecting “PDF Documents” to change the default behavior to open PDFs in the browser instead of downloading them.
- Browser settings:
- Access your browser settings (usually via a three-dot menu in the top right corner).
- Go to “Privacy and security” > “Site Settings”.
- Select “PDF Documents”.
- Ensure the option to “Open PDF in Chrome” (or similar depending on your browser) is selected.
- Outdated browser: Make sure your browser is updated to the latest version.
- Incorrect default PDF reader: Check if your browser is set to use the correct PDF reader as the default.
- Damaged PDF file: In rare cases, the PDF file itself might be corrupted

Use it that way. Go to steps 4 & 5 above.
