INTRO: Online Communications
This module was added to the course as the Pandemic wore on, based on what we were seeing and hearing–mistakes people were making. It holds true today. Overall, we are doing a LOT more online meetings. Do you just lurk in the background, turning off your camera? Is that serving you well or do you get lost in the shuffle of people who are “in the room”? We’ve put together Tips and Strategies for setting up your lighting, camera, microphone, and background so that you can be at your best online.
Face it–these are the skills that you will need for the next decade!
There are three Lessons in this Module:
Part A: Lighting (do’s and don’ts)
Part B: Camera (position for good eye-line, and best practices for your background)
Part C: Sound (microphone selection and placement for best results)
And throughout the Lessons, we give tips on best practices (such as: “stay muted, and press the spacebar if you want to chime in briefly”).
This is the most “technical” of all the Lessons in this course, and has been co-authored with Terry Simpson, a seasoned Video and Lighting professional. Each lesson in this module contains Videos and Tips to introduce the topic, and Worksheets and INFO sheets with Action Steps to help you apply to your own situation. At the end are Resource sheets and referrals to gear.
Congratulations for taking this step to improving your Presentation Skills! We am so excited to be with you on this journey of growth and discovery!
Enjoy!

It kicks off with a nice introductary Video to the Course and an overview of Presentation Skills. Jean talks about doing both the Inner Work and Outer Work to be your best self as a presenter. What beliefs and attitudes do you have that support you in getting better? What skills do you need to communicate better?
The Welcome Module is also a good place to find descriptions of each of the Modules in the Full Course. This can be handy for deciding if you are ready to buy the Full Course.
In addition, there is a fillable PDF Assessment Form for you there!
The first step to improvement, is to know what you want to change. Use this Assessment to rate your current approach to Communications skills, and get some clarity on where you want to grow. It is great to do this Assessment before and after, so you can see how far you have grown.
